Writing Again

I had just started getting serious about writing (Book Launch Blueprint course, website, blog) when health issues hit the stop button. Aside from going to the One Year Adventure Novel Summer Workshop and Realm Makers’ annual conference, my only writerly activity for over a year was developing my story and storyworld in my head. I didn’t write. I barely even read.

I felt much better after open heart surgery and cardiac rehab. I was concentrating on catching up around the house, rather than writing, when I saw the announcement for the new season at Havok. And the season theme fit perfectly with an idea I wanted to try.

Havok’s theme for 2025 is “Multiversal,” with each month’s stories featuring the same “guest star.” The first deadline was so close, it wouldn’t allow much time for planning, but the theme fit perfectly with an idea I already had. I had seen a title, “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” and wanted to write a season’s worth of flashes featuring a single character dealing with lots of apparent bad luck. Only the character would be named Lucky and not believe in luck.

The first story in the series debuts tomorrow!
