My last blog post was October 2023. Then I kind of disappeared. Also, apologies for anyone who tried to sign up for emails. My website was (and still is) kind of broken. Hey, it’s on my list. Which is extensive.

Was I caught in a time dilation field? Nope. Did I hitch a ride to Mars? Sadly, no. Did I pull a Rip-Van-Winkle? Not exactly, although I was pretty out of it for a while.

A few years back, I had surgery to replace my aortic valve. The surgery didn’t go super well, I never really recovered, and the valve deteriorated fairly quickly. As the valve got worse, I kept slowing down until I could barely function. The replacement valve needed replacing.

Thankfully, the Cleveland Clinic was able to fit me in almost immediately. (And a huge “thank you, God!” for making me think to call them rather than the hospital where I had the first surgery.)

My surgery in April 2024 went really well. The surgeon, doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and aides were top-notch. I highly recommend the Cleveland Clinic’s cardiology team. After that I had several weeks of recovery (which went so much better than last time) and several months of cardiac rehab, and then I was released back into the wild.

So, I didn’t sleep for 20 years (like poor Rip did), but I did disappear from writing for well over a year. And now, by the grace of God, I’m back!
